Fast-Tracked Education

Loading 3 large 8/4 live natural edge Walnut slabs after spending nearly an entire day handing them down and carefully selecting them. Part of the learning process...what to buy and what not to buy.

Do you love high-quality furniture?

If you have an interest and the time to learn, Woodworking is an amazing creative outlet. You can create useful long lasting furniture for yourself or others that can be passed down through generations. Some of us develop the interest in our early years and a large number of us find it in our retirement years.

I'd like to offer you an opportunity for a fast-tracked education at my home shop in Buford, GA. What do I mean by fast-tracked? The world of Woodworking is large, vast, deep and wide… and that can be intimidating. Woodworking can also prove to be expensive and you can waste a lot of time going in circles in areas that might have simple answers or complicated answers. A fast tracked education looks like you and I building a project together from start to finish in my shop. I can help you with the design, selecting and sourcing materials, selecting and sourcing tools, shop layout, tools organization, all aspects of making the piece, and applying finish to the piece. Instead of taking numerous individual classes and trying to figure out how to apply them to a future project, lets build what you want to build right now. I’ll demonstrate, but make you do it…safely! Each step along the way you will develop skills that you will use in the future. Do you need a $25 tool, a $250 tool, or can you make the tool yourself out of scraps and throw it away when you’re done? I’m happy to help you navigate the endless possibilities.

At the end of your project you will have developed many useful skills that you can take to your next project to continue building skills on your own. You will most likely already have your next project in mind before finishing this project. The hamster wheel is always turning! When you start your next project, I’m just a phone call away if needed, or we can do more training in my shop if you want.

I genuinely love to teach and share what I’m passionate about, and I believe I have significant teaching skills. I was a corporate trainer for skilled workers in a past life. I can technically identify where you are at, meet you there, and I will help you build skills and confidence quickly. I really enjoy helping and watching the lights turn on. You got this!

Reach out, let's have a conversation, and you can make a decision if this a smart path for you. No pressure. The length of time is largely project dependent. I recently helped 2 retired individuals get started. One project took 3.5 weeks (spread over a year) building a gorgeous 8.5 ft. live edge dining table.  Another project was a 1.5 week bathroom organizer that was unique, beautiful and fit the space perfectly. Larger and smaller projects are possible. Pick up the phone, send a TEXT preferably, or send an email. I’m flexible and easy.

Let’s explore in a way that guarantees your efficient development!

The sudden is proud of her new modern floating top bathroom organizer with carefully woven sides. This project is made entirely from Quarter sawn Sapele.
After the walnut top was milled flat the router bit marks were cleaned up with handplanes. hand planes were the right tool for this job over just about any other tool. Knowing when too use hand tools vs. power tools definitely has its own learning curve.
Quick and super accurate flattening jig holding this 8.5 foot long, 43 inch wide natural live edge Walnut table top. Two slabs were perfectly joined using a Festool track saw and Festool Domino joiner. Patience is absolutely necessary. This accurate flattening jig cost a few hundred dollars, not thousands of dollars. It assisted us during every step of joining, glueing, flattening, and finishing this massive slab top that weighed several hundred pounds.
Floating top and woven ends are main features of this quartersawn Sapele bathroom organizer with room for openly displayed towels, a deep wide drawer, fold down laundry hamper, and cabinet door with shelf storage. How is that for her 1st wood working project. This took 9 full days to complete, but the skills learned would fill an entire book on this joint teaching project. Super engaging and fun to build. Sapele quarter sawn ribbon grain is absolutely beautiful. It complements her recently renovated guest bathroom perfectly.
